Character Info
Name: Renji Aoki. Usually goes by either first or last name.
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Age: 19, nearly 20.
Personality: Renji's demeanor is a generally positive one; He's no optimist, but he's no pessimist, either. He tries to think of himself as a realist. He has a tendency to treat others with the "Golden Rule", so is generally kind and open-hearted to those who actually treat him well. Give him a hard time, and, well. Don't be surprised if "Idiot" becomes your new nickname. He has a tendency to be quite the snark, spitting out venomous barbs whenever he sees an opportune moment, but it's usually all in good fun - that is, unless you're on his bad list. Then, those barbs become quite deep. He can be burdened by guilt very easily, so will either apologize profusely, or try to make it up to you if something happens to someone else. It's even worse if someone gets hurt. Because of this, he has a strong urge to protect those close to him. Though he has a troubled past, and maybe even a few psychological issues to work out, he really does try his best to hide his pain, and be strong for others.
Appearance: Renji is a somewhat tall boy, standing at a solid six feet, with a thin, yet solid layer of muscle on his body. His complexion is pale, but not ghastly so, with heterochromatic eyes; one a striking emerald green, the other, a blazing amber color. His hair is of medium length, with his bangs parted slightly to the left, just above his brow level. In the back, it reaches down to the bottom of his neck, yet it's usually pulled back into a stubby ponytail. The color of his hair is a solid jet black, with the tips tinted with azure. He also has five piercings; three small loops on his left ear, two on his right. Also a dark azure in color.
Representation: Hansel and Gretel
Color: Azure
Semblance: Minor Gravity Manipulation. Ren can alter, to an extent, the effect of gravity on a particular person or object. This can include using it to increase the height of jumps, or reduce the risk of injury due to falling. There is a limitation to how much he can alter gravity for an object, and it normally depends on the weight of the object/person. The more mass, the less he's able to alter it's gravity.
Emblem: A black bullet encased in a shard of ice.
Bio: Renji was born to two well-off business workers in town. He was an only child, so there was usually no one else but his mother and father to watch after him. Unfortunately, when he was eight, his father never came home after work. The only clues that anyone had was he was last seen with a woman in black, with hair like snow. After months of searching, police had to declare him dead. This devastated Ren, but he used it to drive himself to help people. Originally, he wanted to become a standard police officer. His uncle on his mother's side was a retired Hunter, so this is where his abilities in combat began to develop. His uncle was a master with a gunblade (Unoriginal, I know. Sue me .), so before he even touched the weapon, Ren was taught to be a marksman first, and a swordsman later on. It took Ren quite a while to get used to firearms, but with his uncle, he soon learned to be a crackshot. Swordsmanship was a different story; Ren took to the blade like a fish takes to water. He moved so quickly, so gracefully. When he was eleven, he finally started training with the gunblade. His mother was rather stern about it, and thought it was much too young to use a weapon, but she trusted her brother to keep her son safe. It was a totally new experience for Ren, but he was so driven, so passionate, to learn. In his spare time, when he wasn't studying, when he couldn't sleep, all he would do is practice with the blade.
At age thirteen, he joined Signal Academy. At age sixteen, he designed his own gunblade. A completely new design, with the help of his uncle, of course. More agile, more versatile, and made with a lighter, more firm material. Thinking gunblade was rather dull, he gave it its own name; Yukianesa, or Yuki for short. It was also his mother's maiden name.
One late night, walking home from Signal, someone in particular caught his eye. It was a woman in a beautiful black coat, with a skirt and leggings of the same color, but her hair was a beautiful white in color. She seemed to be talking to an older gentleman, and the two walked deeper into the city. Renji was drawn to her, there was something about her. Halfway through tailing her, it occurred to him that this must be the woman that was last seen with his father. They walked deeper into the city's more underground and notorious districts. But, something didn't seem right to Ren. The amount of housing and apartment complexes had nearly vanished. At most, there were abandoned shanty's, and rusty old warehouses that must have been untouched for years.
She brought the man to a large, barren house, with barred windows and a metal door, and brought him inside. Renji had waited and waited, thinking maybe he had the wrong person. Until, finally, he heard a blood curdling scream, the sounds of chains crackling against metal, and deadly snarls. He was about to act, but a white rune appeared on the door, causing it t oshatter inwards. An off-red blur darted past him, entering the home. He assumed it was a trap, but didn't care. He wanted revenge. He dashed in, seeing a girl, no older than him, clad in vermilion and fighting off a large Beowolf with twin daggers. He grabbed Yuki from the holster on his lower back, fighting off the two other beasts as best he could.
It was dark in the empty house, and that made it difficult to fight an enemy with another person you didn't even know. Renji hadn't anticipated the difficulty of the battle against real-life monsters. He took his fair share of scars that day, but he emerged victorious: his first, and second, monster kill. The sense of pride had to be put aside, though, as he began to search the house. It was a sickening mess. Piles of bloodied bones were in piles, and there were even relatively fresh corpses with bite marks still in their bloodied flesh. The three Beowolves had chains around their necks, and seemed to have been kept on the chains, until now. Someone must have set their chains loose. It was disgusting, and a thought occurred to Ren. Somewhere, in this room, were his father's bones. He became blind with rage, had roared for the woman to show herself, but the most he got was a sinister message from the woman yelling back.
"I have your scent!" She said ominously.
Renji made a mad dash for the exit, but it was suddenly sealed off in a mass of protruding metal from the shattered door. Alex had barely managed to make out a Dust rune before the mess fully prevented escape. After more bickering with the young woman, she complied with his demands that she use her Dust to blow the door back to bits. But, he knew they spent too much time on foolish arguing and searching. The woman was long gone.
The young woman with Renji began berating him. She accused him of ruining her trap, that he was brash and rushed into something he couldn't possibly understand. Of course, Ren had to explain his side. That his father was taken, and apparently, used as a food source for this pack of beowolves. She instantly changed her mood, apologizing to him, and eventually offering to treat his wounds at her home. She had left a trail of magical runes that led back to her rather large house. She introduced herself as Veronique Vallat, and, even though they were bickering hours ago, they quickly warmed up to each other. Her cheerful demeanor almost mirrored his at the time introverted personality, and opened up to her quickly. She offered to escort him back home, and he accepted. Unfortunately, there were a few people waiting for them when they got there. A few police officers, and a Huntress, and an ex-Hunter, his uncle. Ren was terrified. He dashed inside of his home, tearing past the officers that refused to allow him in. His home was thrashed, and on the wall, written in blood, was "I STILL HAVE YOUR SCENT"
She had been killed by an intruder. It's said that while her wounds were rather severe and almost feral, it must have just been a psychopath that happened upon the wrong house at the wrong time.
It's his fault, Renji thought. It was his fault. He had to play hero. He had to find his father's killer, and he had to be foolish enough to let her escape. The thought nagged at him for ages. It kept him up at night.
With not much left for him, he set his anger and frustrations on the beasts that had killed his father. Though he was going to find the monster that led his father to his death.
The years that followed weren't necessarily the easiest. He studied hard during his final days at Signal, but was still declining in not only grades, but health. His insomnia started, along with a decline of a mental stability. He still suffers from a few lingering issues, such as panic or anxiety attacks, insomnia, and depression, on occasion. He's lucky to have the support of his team to keep him steady.
Equipment and Battle Info
Battle attire: His attire usually consists of, starting from the top, a worn black denim jacket, with a white hoodie underneath. Said hoodie is rather slim and fitting to his form, with a hood attached to the back. The hood, when worn, can act as a way to hide his face from others. There's a small azure stripe on the sweater, leading from the middle of his back where it meets the neck, to the crown of his head. The denim jacket sometimes has its sleeves folded up for no apparent reason. There is no apparent reason, but Alex has a small handful of belts attached to his waist. One attached normally, to ensure his pants stay in place, that's of black leather. The other two are a dark azure, hooked around his waist on opposite belt loops, so they sag down to each side of his hip. His pants are an alabaster in color, and also rather slim, but made of a material ensuring maneuverability. His shoes are a slip on design, with a black and white checkerboard pattern.
Fighting style: Ren is fast and ruthless in battle. His standard attacks are almost always ice based, whether firing shards of ice encased bullets, or attaching ice to his blade to add serration, or even an ice whip. He also uses his ice to effect his surroundings. Tactical, would be the best way to put it. He is a master swordsman, and a crackshot, and is determined to string the two together to make a clean, quick kill.
Weapon Name: Yukianesa
Weapon Range: Short-medium in the blade form, medium-long in firearm mode.
Weapon type: High-Impact Caliber Gun-Blade.
Weapon Description: Renji's personal weapon is a gunblade dubbed Yukianesa, or Yuki, for short. It's made of a powerful material, that gives it a very light weight with no restriction on durability or sharpness, and is a solid 26inches in size, not including the six inch hilt/grip. The base of the blade is an ebony finish, with tinges of azure embodied into the blade.
- Spoiler:
Weapon Abilities: On top of being razor sharp to the touch, the blade can fold down to a firearm. The gun fires high-caliber bullets, and can either be used while the blade is fully extended, adding more punch to stabs or slashes, or even propelling Ren in different directions, or folded down into a rather large pistol with a barrel length of nine inches. Inside the blade are hollow points that allow dust from a secondary chamber near the magazine slide to travel. His primary dust use is a mix of ice and water, with the occasional fire and electric dust, as well. The blade can become covered in razor sharp icicles to give it an impromptu serrated edge, or can cause icicles to protrude from the ground. The blade can also form a whip of ice and/or water for extra punch.
Misc. Info
Family: His uncle had been a relatively successful hunter, and he also sees Vera as a younger sister, since their family practically adopted him into their family when he was orphaned.
Strengths and Weaknesses: Alex may be a calm, collected, and calculating individual in battle, but when not cathartically ripping an enemy to shreds, he's a very unstable and broken young man. He's prone to psychological breakdowns, and generally fears losing anyone. This is obviously an advantage for anyone looking to hurt him.
Other: Renji is a bit of a hopeless romantic, and, while he isn't necessarily picky when it comes to being attracted to women, there are three things that he absolutely loves in women: Red hair, defined collarbones, and green eyes. Guaranteed swooning if there's a combo of at least two.
