Representation: Puss in Boots/The Cheshire Cat Color: Black Semblance: Cheshire: The ability to change your location, moving yourself from one spot to another. This semblance allows the user to change his position and location to another area. To put it into a single term of description: teleportation. The semblance was given its name because when used, the user would leave behind a cloud of black smoke briefly along with a strange symbol that looked like a mad grin. This was also the inspiration for his emblem. The user must first recognize himself being somewhere else. In other words, the user must imagine and believe that he is somewhere else. Through proper mindset, it can be done instantly. This ability is near impossible to use to locate to a place the user does not know or has never been to. Teleportation range is limited to a 300 ft radius (roughly the length of a football field) from where the user's current location is. Space distortion may also be partially used on specific parts of the body. Through much deeper concentration, the user can have his body separate while staying connected. Visual description: User stands at point A. Using space distortion on right hand, user makes everything from the wrist down and everything attached to it appear at point B over ten meters away. A light covers the area where the limb separates from the main body which shows the presence of the space distortion. The limb can still be moved and controlled by the user as if still attached to the main body. This ability requires heavy concentration and cannot be used instantly or repetitively. If concentration is broken during this time, the distortion is immediately cancelled and the body returns to its original construction. Due to the need for deep concentration, during the use of this type of distortion, user's movement is slowed immensely to the point where user is unable to even move during this time. If user attempts to make sudden movements or actions, concentration is immediately broken and the distortion is cancelled. This ability can be used on any part(s) of the body. The semblance can also be used to give high vantage points. By teleporting to the same exact spot, like high in the air, it can appear as though the user is floating, placing him in a safe position but also keeping him from evading attacks. This method does not last long as it require strenuous concentration and can only keep the user in the air for about a solid minute. The semblance can not be used with others and only the user can change his own location. Distortion does not allow the user to change the position of himself or any part of himself to appear somewhere where space is taken up (ex. In the middle of a wall or inside a person). Bio: - Spoiler:
Once upon a time, there was a young faunus boy with black cat ears and a skinny cat’s tail with dark gray stripes. The young faunus was a war orphan, losing his parent before he was even old enough to remember them. All he had was a little sister whom he cared for with all his heart. His precious little sister was always by his side and he took care of her in nearly all her years.
At a young age, the orphans were placed into servitude in a small plantation. They were given quarters in a shed with beds of wood. They made to work for a young master who inherited his money. They were called servants, but in the end they were really just slaves.
Regardless of their poor condition, the elder brother did everything he can to care for his little sister. He would take her workload upon himself and share his food with her. As long as his sister was safe and well, he was content.
The land was plagued with a strange illness one year. It was a terrible disease that left one fatigued and in pain internally. Common signs were coughing of blood and patches of skin drying up. There was medication to treat the disease but only the wealthy could afford it. The illness most easily infected the faunus.
One by one, their fellow slaves succumbed to the illness and died of it. The plantation they were in servitude under was going under as their main work force depleted, leaving only the two young faunus left to take upon the burden.
The two siblings were split up. The elder brother was given the task of tending to the fields as he always has and his little sister was put to work in the house. The siblings did not want to be separated but in the end, the elder brother subsided and told the younger to go. House servants were given better quarters and food and he only wanted the best for his sister.
And so the weeks went by and the brother worked hard at the fields, often looking towards the house longingly. He wanted to see his little sister, to make sure she was well, but field servants were forbidden from entering the house.
As the days went by, the plantation only grew poorer relying on a one-man workforce led by a young faunus boy. The young master was forced to sell off land and fields until all that was left was the house and a small field of still growing crops.
Angered and stressed, the young master went out into the fields and started beating the faunus slave in fury. The slave could not do anything to resist because it would only mean death and he could not afford that. Beaten and bruised after constant assault on a daily basis, the young faunus took it without once crying out or complaining because he knew that as long as he is the target for the young master’s rage than his sister would be spared.
One day, the young master had hit a breaking point, taking the faunus slave by the throat and clenching a knife with the other hand.
“You’re useless to me!” he barked, “I should just skin you now!”
That was when the faunus snapped. He couldn’t sit back any longer. He could not allow himself to die. If he were gone, there would be no one left to watch over his little sister.
“W-Wait!” the young faunus pleaded, “S-Spare me and I will give you land and wealth!”
The young master’s grip lessen but he did not let go. “And how will you do that?” he asked suspiciously.
“All I need…” the young faunus said, “Are nice clothes… and a pair of boots…”
The proposal was absurd and ridiculous, but it was so much so that it only made the young master think the faunus had a cunning plan up his sleeve. And so the young master gave the slave some of his clothing and a pair of boots. The boy set out, but first made a deal with his master.
“If I give you wealth and land then set my sister free of her slave contract.”
The master paused but agreed to this.
The town where they lived had a rich man. His power and fortune was that of a king. He lived in a castle atop a hill, surrounded by a lush garden and green fields. He had beautiful daughter, fare and elegant. The man wished to marry her off with another nobleman to carry on his legacy and fortune, but he would not give her to any man. He looked for only one who is truly worthy. He waited for a man of virtue and nobility. He will only give his daughter to a nobleman worthy of his title, no more no less.
Then one day, a certain young faunus boy visited him; clad in fine clothing, walking high in boots of leather. He presented the rich lord with rare game from his master, hiding the fact that it was not from his master but was caught by the young boy himself.
“What a generous master you have!” he exclaimed upon seeing the rare bird. “But where is he? Does he not wish to try for my daughter’s hand? Why does he not present himself?”
Then the boy goes on telling the rich lord how his master was in love with his daughter but did not want to show himself to her. He wished to commune with her through gestures like this and through messages delivered by him. He did not wish for her to see him for his face or his stature. The boy told the lord that his master had no desire to flaunt his fortune. He wanted the daughter to choose to love him for his mind and his persona. He wanted her to give him her heart because he was himself.
The faunus’s faked statements beyond moved the rich man and with questioning further he made his exclamation. He wanted to meet his master at his estate and in person will give him his blessing to marry his daughter.
And with that the young faunus faced a problem. He could not bring the nobleman to his master as he is. His master needed an estate to show to the man and a dying plantation was not going to cut it. He needed to get his master an estate if only for a day.
There was an estate in the outskirts of the village. No one knew who lived there and no one tried to find out. As far as anyone can tell it was abandoned, but the smoke from the chimney and the lights behind the windows showed otherwise.
Some people say it was home to an ogre and feared to approach it.
The faunus boy ventured into this manor and walked inside cautiously to explore. There he met the master, a mere man who tinkered in many arts. His walls were lined with countless weaponry and he surrounded himself with dust of all kinds. He welcomed the faunus with a smile and allowed him to speak.
He presented his case, pleading with the man to allow his master to borrow his estate for a single day. He begged and pleaded, showing his desperation. The man smiled and said to the boy, “Then show me your resolve.”
He presented the boy with a dead rate, its flesh decaying and rotting of stink. The boy stared at it warily, unsure of what to do. The man ordered him to eat it.
He dropped the rodent onto the floor in front of him and watched with a sadistic smile. The faunus stared at the rat with disgust and horror, shaking in place as he looked down at it. Then he knelt down, grabbed the rate, and started eating it.
Every bite made him want to hurl. Every swallow made him feel sick. He felt like he could die as he gradually tore the flesh off the dead rat with his teeth, holding back the need to vomit. The man watched the faunus until the rat was gone, skin, organs, and bones alike. The boy wrapped his arms around himself, his shoulder shaking. He shakily stood up and stared at the man’s eyes and asked one last time for him to allow his master to use his estate.
Impressed by his determination, the man agreed.
And so, the faunus’s young master posed as a high noble in an estate merely borrowed and the rich man was set and was resolve in giving the man his daughter and a share of land and wealth.
The moment the rich man left, the young master was jumping and laughing in glee. His slave simply stood back at attention and watched patiently.
“I can’t believe you actually did it!” he laughed. “You have done good! I can’t believe you did it!”
Neither did the faunus. He honestly made a hasty plan on the spur of the moment and it worked out in the end. But he did not care, as long as his master held up his end of the deal.
“Alright,” the young master concluded, strolling over to one of the works of art in the borrowed manor and examined it thoughtfully. “You are free to go. Consider your slave contract nulled.”
To confirm this, the young master pressed a button in his pocket and the shock collar around the faunus’s neck fell off, clattering against the stone floor. But the faunus remained still, staring at his master.
“What about… my sister?” he asked, “The deal was that you set her free.”
“This is the next best thing,” the young master said waving him off. “Now get going. You’re free.”
“The deal was that you would free my sister,” the faunus growled, taking a step closer towards the arrogant master.
“Yeah, well, she’s been ‘free’ for weeks now,” the young master stated, not even bothering to turn around to face him. “She’s dead.”
Realization dawned over the faunus’s face. He shook his head in disbelief. “You’re lying…”
“She contracted that blasted illness not too long after she started serving in the house,” he scowled as if recalling something distasteful. “She was coughing up blood and making a mess of the carpet. It was so annoying. I couldn’t very well get her treated. I was barely making way myself. Don’t worry; she didn’t suffer for too long. I put her down a long time ago. I can’t very well risk letting myself get infected now. I tossed her into the ocean with all the others so be grateful I went through the trouble of-“
The young master was silent. He fell to the ground, dead before he realized the dagger was stuck into his back.
The faunus stared down at the corpse of his former master. He himself was as good as dead now. The punishment for a faunus killing a human was imprisonment and execution. Then a familiar voice spoke to him.
“You’ve gotten yourself into quiet some trouble, eh?” the true master of the estate observed, stepping up into site. Next to him was another man who resembled him greatly. “We are the brothers. We have been watching. So tell me, is that the end of your tale?”
The faunus remained silent. “I want to die,” he replied, “but I don’t want to let it happen.”
“I see,” one of the brothers said thoughtfully, “So you want to die but you don’t want suicide. You want to go down fighting. You want to live and then let death come to you when it sees fit.”
The faunus nodded.
“Very well,” a brother smiled, “Then let us help you with that. We can make your crimes disappear and no one would be the wiser. We can help you start a new life. Where should he go, brother?”
“I believe a good destination would be Vale, Brother,” the second brother replied. “Faunus slavery is illegal there. What do you think he should do, Brother?”
“A hunter would be a good option, Brother,” he stated, “If he wishes to seek death with a fight than that would be the best course, yes.”
“Very well,” the two brothers said in unison.
“We will provide you with the weapons and materials you need to start off and send you to Vale. There you will find the death you seek. In turn, we will watch you and your story until its end. We look forward to seeing your story and where this path towards death will lead you…”
~~~~~
Six years have passed since that day. The young faunus had grown, now nineteen years old. He attended combat school in Vale and has been accepted to Beacon as a first year. He has learned to fight and how to survive to the highest his skills will allow.
It was ironic, since the only reason he was fighting and hunting was because he hoped to see his little sister again.
Equipment and Battle Info Attire: He wears glasses and a black hunter hat with a design combining a chevalier hat and a fedora with violet ribbon tied around the base. His hair is fairly messy and his bangs are long, falling to once side of his face, covering his eye. He wears a dark purple vest over an off white dress shirt with stripe design as well as black dress pants and a black long coat. He wears black leather gloves with grip padding on the palm and fingertips. He always wears his boots and his pistols are hidden up the sleeves of his coat. He could draw them with a flick of his wrist. He wears a bell on his tail tied with a purple ribbon which seems off about his character but it's there regardless. Fighting style: A tactical fighter who prefers strategy over brute force. Rather than go for a frontal assault he likes to allow his opponent to attack first and he counters it, either avoiding it through swift dodging or diverting the attack and proceed with a deadly counterattack. His swordsmanship is that of a swashbuckler, relying on his two rapiers to counter and strike opponents. His fighting style is mostly dependant on his speed and maneuverability. He uses tactical planning to counter his opponent’s moves and strike at vital points in swift succession. He usually aims for vital spots to gradually weaken his opponent and slow it down. Weapon Name: Kuroneko Weapon Range: Blade reach= 3.3 ft Gun range= 45ft Chain length= 30 ft Weapon type: Long barrel heavy pistols that can turn into rapiers while still allowing the ability to shoot. Weapon Description: - 1st Form:
- 2nd Form:
Weapon Abilities: The pistols use a revolving four chamber filled with dust. The guns can compress small portions of the dust as they are pumped into the barrel to shoot bullets of dust that explode on impact. When in rapier form, the dust can optionally be channeled through the blade to take of special effects. The types of dust are as follows: - Dust types:
Fire dust: Dust used to create fire. When shot as bullets, they explode into bursts of flames. When channeled into the blade, the blade emits a strong heat and when it successfully hits a target, it lets out a burst of fire from the areas the blades touch against something. If stabbing into a target it lets out a burst of fire through the tip. If it slices an opponent with the edge, the area where it hits the skin will let out a blast of fire to burn the wound as well.
Ice dust: Dust used to create ice and freeze objects. Upon impact, the ice dust rounds can potentially create a massive shell of ice around the target to immobilize it. When channeled into the blade, the attacks create ice.
Lightning dust: Dust that manifests bursts of electric energy. Targets will face shock damage and possibly burns. When channeled into the blade, the rapier is electrocuted and possesses a taser effect.
Air dust: Dust that manipulates air. When shot by the pistol, the dust turns into bullets of compressed air and will have the effect of steel tipped bullets on the target along with a heavy impact. When channeled into the blade, condensed air surrounds it that spins rapidly to have a razor effect, making the area around the blade into a saw like weapon that cannot be fully seen.
The butt of each pistol is attached to a 30 ft. chain that is attached to a mechanism worn on each arm to extend and retract the chain accordingly. Either pistol can be thrown or swung as a chain weapon. Weapon Name: Oni sureiyā Weapon Range: Short melee, short firearm Weapon type: A pair of high tech boots with saw attachment and the ability to shoot propulsion shotgun rounds from the heels. Weapon Description: A pair of armored boots worn by Chess at all times. Under the sole of each foot are three small, wheels. A back motorized wheel is able to drop down and its usage is capable of giving Cheshire an accelerated speed of nearly 70 mph. Each boot is equipped with a chain saw’s chain link with one end attached to the inside of the knee guard while the other end is located on a mini motor on the foot. About a foot of the razor chain goes into the shin and is able to be pulled outward to allow the foot the move and bend normally. Each heel is capable of shooting propulsion dust core fragmentation shells capable of both explosive damage and pushing away the target at the same time in a heavy push. The can also be used to lift Chess off the ground in a high jump of up to fifteen feet into the air. The trigger is any heavy impact or force against the heel of the foot, such as in a kick using the heel or a heavy stomp to the ground. The heels also have a small buzzsaw the size of palm, giving a more severe meaning to the term “axe kick”. Misc. Info Family: N/A Strengths and Weaknesses: Strengths:*Tactical fighter: Strategic and fast thinking. Can analyze opponents to predict attacks and plan counter attacks. He is a fast thinker, able to react quickly to things and come up with a counter attack or a plan of action at a moment’s notice. *Has well-honed strategic ability and a keen eye for detail and information giving him the ability to easily predict attacks minutes beforehand and plan counterstrikes in an instant. Usually this is a well timed evasion maneuver followed by a quick and lethal strike. * He possesses extremely high speed and agility and a near instant reaction ability. *A keen eye analysis. Is best with performing counterstrikes and taking advantages of openings in defense. He can read the weak point of most enemies by analyzing their build and the way they fight and will quickly strike at the vital points when the opportunity gives him room to. Weaknesses*Only possesses a basic amount of strength. The only amount of strength he bothered to build up is just enough to carry his weight and his weapons while maintaining his preference in speed. If he lightened said weight he could be faster but he eats very little already and going into battle without weaponry is just foolish. *His lack of strength diminishes his melee attack ability and he cannot do much damage with blunt strikes unless striking at a vital or weak point. His hand to hand combat is fairly weak in other words and most other hunters can probably beat him in a test of strength. *Though he makes it a point to think before acting, the side of him that despises seeing pointless death could make do reckless things to save his comrade. His rationality is almost completely gone when it comes to the well being of a fellow faunas. * His lack of expression and his inability to show his real thoughts to others makes it hard for him to interact with others and make companions he can fully trust to fight alongside. In extension, he finds it difficult to trust people in general. Other: Skilled in arts. Chess likes to draw, thinking it a relaxing hobby along with reading books and playing games. His years of traveling alone has made him versatile in many survival skills as well as a minor cooking ability and he has a habit of trying to keep things tidy. Despite his cold demeanor, he tends to have very unmanly tastes and besides his skills as a hunter he’s pretty much a born house wife.
| Well, that's quite the character.
Just a few things I'd like to point out; First, if there's a connection between the name and color, I'm not seeing it. Could you point it out for me? Second, if you could add a tad more to Strengths and Weaknesses.
Third, while there is no specific rule or anything against this, having only one representation makes my job rather easier, and leaves the second rep still open. If you want to keep both, that's fine, but it'd still be helpful if you can choose just one.
| Sorry this took so long to reply, I have been busy as heck.
So his name is Chess which refers to the boardgame which in turn reminds people of black and white colors. To be fair, this is the same logic Monty follows for a lot of his characters.
I've edited the strengths and weaknesses to be a bit more detail and points. Also, I changed the backstory but that's not really important.
Now I really don't want to seem or sound like an ass saying this, but I don't really want to give up either allusion. My character is highly alluding to both and I just see it really unfitting if he only alluded to one or the other. Call it a bit selfish but it really seemed off only thinking of the character as either Puss in Boots or the Cheshire Cat. Sorry if this makes things more difficult. I really am sorry.
Flash dust: This dust is used in larger portions and cannot be shot carelessly. The dust explodes into a bright light equivalent to a small flash bang to blind opponents. Does not do anything when channeled into the blade.
Medical dust: Dust used to heal wounds by increasing enzyme energy and rapidly increases cellular regeneration and heal wounds. This does nothing when channeled to the blade and can only be shot as small dust pellets to so self and allies.
... These are pretty much the only things I'm taking any issue with at the current time. Medical Dust seems overly redundant, what with the healing capabilities Aura typically provides, and the Flash Dust doesn't really seem to align with anything we've seen from the show. Granted, we have little to speculate on, but what is there doesn't seem to include bright flashes of light, unless that would possibly be a specific application of Fire Dust (though I'm not quite sure how that would work). Very much a solid profile though.
| Well, now I'm not really seeing any glaring issues. You're vague in those areas that matter, and I have no doubt the dashing Cheshire Cat Faunus will prove to be a very interesting character. APPROVED | |
